The members of the Pickleball Club are truly amazing!!
Monday, April 4th, was a fantastic day for playing pickleball, enjoying a pot luck lunch and raising in total over $8,200 for Chef Jose Andres World Central Kitchen. With the help of David Bermans' blog https://anthemjournal.typepad.com/davids_anthem_journal/2022/04/pickleballers-take-center-court-for-ukraine-relief-you-can-help-too.html , and our neighbors here in Sun City Anthem, the funds raised should grow to an amount we didn't think possible at the time planning for the event, let alone what we collected on Monday! WOW!!
Of course this wouldn't have been possible if Larry Strumwasser hadn't approached the Club with the idea of a fundraiser for Ukraine and then having the Club's event planner extraordinaire, Pam Leslie plan and organize the event. Great job Pam and Larry!
This event wouldn't have been possible without our volunteers who arrived early and stayed late. Many thanks to Bob and Judy Keenan, Linda Krause, Janet Pyle, Jan Healing, Susan Tener, Vince Cimino, Doug Taylor and Paul Myers. Thanks also goes to the SCA Paddle Tennis Club who allowed us to use their paddle tennis courts to give us 3 additional courts to use for our 60+ participants. Thank you Doug Taylor, Geri Grodzinsky and Mario Najera for letting us use your 3 portable pickleball nets on the paddle tennis courts.
And most importantly, thank you Club members for your generosity and your big hearts by giving to this worthy cause!
Hopefully, we will have some final donation numbers for the upcoming membership meeting on April 18th. We will keep you posted.
