PICKLEBALL DRILLING SESSIONS

We are pleased to announce that we are now able to offer PICKLEBALL DRILLING SKILLS training on a weekly basis through the activities department.  While these sessions will be listed on our monthly calendar, they must be booked through the activities department.  Guy Anderson is the instructor and the cost varies depending on the sessions and the cards purchased through the activities department.  Enjoy building your pickleball skills.

HOA Drill Process

Pickleball drill sessions will be treated as a regular fitness class with 4-8 clients per session

  1. Clients should sign up for the drill sessions via the reservation system process
  2. Clients who would like to attend more than one session can purchase a $50 card at any of the three centers, which will entitle them to 5 sessions at $10 a session.  These cards are good for the month purchased to use and the end at the following month.  These cards can be used for a reserved session or as a walk-in
  3. Clients who prefer to do a single session are required to pay $12.00 per session.  Clients should reserve a session using the reservation system process to choose the date they want to attend.  Clients must pay for the reserved session prior to attending at any of the three centers.  A copy of the reservation will be sent by the Fitness Reservation Department via GroupFitness@scacai.com.  It will have the client’s name, date of the session reserved when purchased.  If the client has pre-paid for a single session, he or she may go directly to the pickleball court on the day which was reserved. If they have not reserved a session, they can go to the pickleball court but must check with the Pro to see if there is room to attend.  When attending a session clients must initial the back of the reservation and give it to the Pro prior to the start of the session.
  4. If the client has to reserve a session and has not previously purchase a single drill session, he or she must check in with the fitness monitor in the Anthem Center on the day he or she wants to attend a session.  The fitness monitor will look at the class roster on the day in question and if room, the fitness monitor will have the client pay the $12 and provide the client a copy of the receipt,
  5. When attending a session clients must initial the receipt and give it to the Pro.  Guy Anderson will secure a copy of the class roster sheet.  Guy is responsible for ensuring who has attended the session by checking them off the roster. Guy will be responsible for crossing off a session on the $50 card if a client has it. The clients who have paid $12 for a single drill session need to give the receipt to Guy prior to the session start and sign and ate the back of the receipt. Guy is responsible for giving the signed receipts with the roster to the Fitness Reservation Department in the Independence Center after the session has been completed.

PICKLEBALL COURTS UPDATE

In response to all the questions, rumors, and concerns regarding the status of the new Pickleball courts that are under construction  Your board and CLC representativetive set up a meeting with Sandy Seddon (COO) and Shawn Evans (Facilities Director).  After much discussion, we asked why there had been so many delays since the project had started in the summer of 2022 and if there was any estimate of the date when the new courts would be finished.

Shawn reviewed the history of the contract and described all of the surprises discovered by the  contractor underneath the existing bocce ball courts 12 months ago.* including the remains of two old bocce ball courts) These surprises have led to the need to redo the original court plans, dig larger post holes, move the location of the actual court by 30 inches and seek new permits. All of these “surprises” have led to many unexpected delays and the need to ask for new PB court drawings and more permits from the City of Henderson.

After much discussion, many questions and proposals, the following conclusion was reached by the SCA management team. First there is a need to ask the board for more money to complete the courts in the form of a contract change order at the March 28th SCA board meeting. Second, using the existing contractor and their subs to complete the work would be cheaper than hiring a new contractor. The contractor has sent a list of items to the HOA that is needed to get the work on the courts started.  Third, it will not be possible to get an estimated completion date for the new courts until after the new contract is approved at the board meeting and the contractor resumes work. .  These items have been approved by the HOA at their meeting (Thursday March 28, 2024) and work has begun this week.

Sandy and Shawn have promised to update your PB board on the progress of the construction on a bi weekly basis, and I will share that information with our members. The contractor has begun work this Monday and  we hope to  share the new completion schedule with you on April 8th at our next general meeting.  In the meantime, the lower parking area will remain open on a consistent basis unless there is work to be done on the cell tower.  It will be opened ASAP after this work is completed which I am told should be in a few days.  There is additional construction work to be done around the new courts – removal of the sidewalk, digging larger holes and pouring cement for the posts.  I have been assured that access to the temporary courts will be always available. Stay tune for next update.

RULES FOR THE 2024 SPRING FUN LEAGUE

The 2024 Spring Fun League will be divided into three leagues: Low Intermediate, High Intermediate and Advanced.   The league will run  for 5 consecutive weeks and then the top two teams will compete in a championship match the following week.  The weekly schedule for advanced and high intermediate divisions will consist of 5 rounds of play: women's doubles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles. The lower intermediate division will play 3 rounds.

Scoring: Each game will be played first to 15 and teams will switch sides after one team reaches 8 points.  Awards at the end of the league are based on total games won.  Cumulative scores/standings will be posted on the club website weekly.

Ties: In the event of a tie at the end of the 5 weeks of league play, the order of tie breakers will be as follows:

  1. Most total points scored

  2. Least total points allowed

  3. Coin flip

Schedule:

Advanced – Mondays February 26 – March 25  10:30am

Intermediate (Low and High) – Wednesdays February 28-March 27 10:30am

All divisions will have a championship round on Wednesday April 3 10:30AM, followed by awards and lunch. (There are no matches on Mon April 1)

Sub Players: In the event that a League player is unable to play, they are required to request a sub player from Stefanie Newmark or Joan Moore at least 24 hours in advance, the sooner the better.

Injuries: In the event a player sustains an injury during league play and is unable to finish their matches for that day, a retirement will be scored for the game in progress with the winning team scoring 15 and the retiring player (and their partner) retaining any points they have earned in that match.  Any subsequent matches for that day that are not played will be a score of 15-0 recorded.

Rules and Courtesy:  Please remember that while everyone wants to be successful when playing, courtesy and kindness makes for a more positive environment for all members involved in the Fun Leagues.  This is being run by your fellow SCA members and is completely volunteer.  Without the volunteers there would be no tournaments.  Thanks for your cooperation!!!!!
